Hypnotherapy for life's transitions

01-Feb-2018 Hypnotherapy for life's transitions

Hypnotherapy can help alleviate symptoms during menopause. Rowena Phillips, Clinical Hypnotherapist, shares an overview.

Very often clients come to see me at a time of transition in their lives. Perhaps a work situation or personal relationship is changing, or they have decided to implement changes within themselves.

The menopause is also a time of transition and, with it, can come physical experiences, anxieties and other feelings that may never have surfaced before.

Hypnotherapy is a gentle, relaxing way of reaching the subconscious mind and using positive suggestions to assist with such as hot flushes and night sweats.

It is also extremely effective for emotional wellbeing at this time. Women can find their confidence declining and sometimes see their role within the family changing to a point where the way forward is unclear. Various techniques can help to focus women on their personal situation and consider all the possibilities.

Anxiety and feelings of panic can be exacerbated during the menopause and can be alleviated using hypnotherapy. There is also a new form of psychotherapy called 'BWRT' (Brain Working Recursive Therapy) for this and many other issues.

Hypnosis is a state of mind that we all flow in and out of many times a day. For example, have you ever been so engrossed in a book that you haven't even heard someone calling you? You have drifted into a hypnotic state whilst focusing on your particular thoughts and this is what we use in the consulting room - deep relaxation combined with focused thought.

Many women say that hypnosis gives them the opportunity to become much more relaxed than at any other time in their busy lives. Research has shown that women experiencing the menopause can benefit greatly from hypnotherapy and make this transition a positive one.
